Piano legend and inspiring performer

Pianist in concert with drummer

“Unique | one artist, one venue, one concert” is a concept developed by the Deutsche Grammophon record label in partnership with the Centre des monuments nationaux (CMN) and Neutra Production. It is a series of feature films screened in cinemas, whose concept is clearly expressed in the project’s title. One artist. One venue. One concert. According to its organizers, the principle is to present: “one of today’s most talented classical artists, filmed at a major French heritage site where music had never previously been performed”. The first of these films presents an exclusive concert recorded especially for the occasion without an audience. It features Franco-Serbian violinist Nemanja Radulović, accompanied by his Double Sens orchestra and the ensemble Trilles du Diable, as well as pianist Laure Favre-Kahn and violinists Ksenija Milosevic and Tijana Tana Milosevic. They were all filmed by director Sébastien Lefebvre amid the mysterious megalithic alignments of Carnac in Morbihan, a place “whose poetry and mystery matched the violinist’s charisma, as well as the atmosphere of One Thousand and One Nights and Scheherazade.”

Biography of Laure Favre-Kahn

“Laure Favre-Kahn is an artist whose dedication at the piano is matched by her sensitivity in life. She is both passionate and fragile: this can be heard in her music, in her forthright attacks as much as in her subtle rubato, in her moving inflections as much as in her flawless virtuosity. The radiance of her appearance is answered by the fire of her beautiful soul, turned, like the title of one of her recordings, toward the flame.”  Alain Duault

After studying at the Avignon Conservatory, Laure Favre-Kahn received a unanimous first prize in piano at the age of 17 from the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris, where she studied in Bruno Rigutto’s class.

Named one of Adami’s Révélations classiques in 1999, she recorded her first album, devoted to Schumann, at the age of 20, followed by a recording devoted to Chopin for the Arion label. Since then, she has performed regularly in France and abroad, appeared as a guest with numerous orchestras, and played at leading festivals.

In 2001, she won first prize at the ProPiano International Competition in New York and gave a recital at Carnegie Weill Hall that same year. Following this concert, she was named ProPiano Artist of the Year and recorded an album devoted to Reynaldo Hahn, which was praised by The New York Times.

Since 2003, Laure Favre-Kahn has recorded eight live albums for the Transart label: concertos by Schumann, Chopin, and Tchaikovsky; three recitals devoted to Chopin; a program devoted to Rachmaninoff and Gottschalk; and a CD centered on the theme of dance.

She also has a passion for chamber music and, since 2005, has performed as a duo with violinist Nemanja Radulović, with whom she has given numerous concerts around the world. In 2018, Laure appeared on his latest album, “Baïka,” released by Deutsche Grammophon, on which they recorded Khachaturian’s trio with clarinetist Andreas Ottensamer.

In 2013, Laure Favre-Kahn created her own show at the Festival d’Avignon, “Chopin Confidences,” in which she appeared alone on stage to pay tribute to the composer, accompanied by the voice of Charles Berling.

Her 12th album, “Vers la flamme,” was released by Naïve in 2017 and received unanimous critical acclaim.

Since 2004, she has served as a patron of the Caméléon association, which protects abused children in the Philippines.
